Arrival by public transport: page “Description”
Excursions with public transport, by bike or on foot
By car you can easily drive to various alps and alpine inns and from there take walks and hikes. If you arrived by public transport and want to go uphill or shop, the following information can make planning easier:
Local bus: the “Dorfbus” (bus line B 270) runs normally every one to two hours until 19h on weekdays to Boltigen and Zweisimmen. Check the connections on www.sbb.ch for the station “Boltigen, Eschi Dorf”. On Sundays take the bus line 259 connecting Boltigen and Jaunpass and which stops at “Boltigen, Eschi Abzweig.”.
Reidenbach (shopping, restaurant Sternen):
on foot 25 min. (1.6 km) or by local bus (200m from the house)
Boltigen (shopping in Bichsel’s, train station, restaurants):
on foot 40 min. (2.8 km) or by local bus
Weissenbach (railway station, Restaurant Rawyl):
20 min on foot (1.4 km), local bus
Zweisimmen (railway station, shopping, restaurants, sports shops):
by local bus or e-bike (just a bit over 20 min)
Bicycle: a cycle path leads through the Simmental, partly at the bottom of the valley, partly going up a bit.
Hiking
The two closest hiking trails (Jaunpass and Talboden/Zweisimmen) both start in Weissenbach.
In Reidenbach various hiking trails start towards Schwarzenmatt/Jaun, Walop, Adlemsried/Oberwil.
In Boltigen the trail climbs towards Niderhore, the mountain opposite.
Jaun Pass
The easiest way to get uphill is by bus from Eschi Kreuzung (500m from the house). By cycle you either take the pass road (with a lot of motorcycle traffic) or go via Weissenbach and Garstatt, then right via Afterried and Ruhren.
The Jaun is the starting point of various hikes, it is connected via the Hundsrück with the Rellerli above Schönried (accessible by gondola).
In between is Sparenmoos, accessible from Eschi by bicycle via Weissenbach and Garstatt or on summer weekends by bus from Zweisimmen (see www.sparenmoos-aktiv.ch).
